Product Description:

Use Artefier to increase your poultry’s performance by improving a higher oil and fat utilization rate. Artefier improves fat digestion via emulsification resulting in an increase in body weight.

Inefficient digestion and absorption of fat occurs in young chickens due to a low level of natural lipase production. In chickens the activity and net duodenal secretion of lipase increases as the chick ages. A low rate of bile salt synthesis in young chicks further confounds the problem. Dietary supplementation of bile salt reportedly improved fat utilization in chicks but the strategy may not be economically viable. Therefore, cheaper emulsifying agents or detergents which transform a hydrophobic surface into a hydrophilic one have been used alternatively to increase fat digestibility in young chicks. Emulsifiers are molecules with a hydrophilic and a hydrophobic part. The emulsifier will stabilize a liquid mixture from 2 liquids which are normally not mixable (e.g. oil and water). The emulsifiers will be placed on the surface between the two liquids. Artefier is a strongly hydrophilic emulsifier. The hydrophilic lypophylic balance (HLB) of Artefier is around 8-16: oil will be mixed in water. Since the intestinal tract of the animal is a watery environment, the best possible micelle formation and fat absorption will only be achieved with a hydrophylic emulsifier. Nevertheless, the exigency of using exogenous emulsifiers in broiler diets must be looked into because feeding of nutrient dense diets containing added fat is almost inevitable to exploit the full growth potential of the high yielding broiler strains.

Fat digestion has 4 different steps. In the first step, fats are pre-digested in the stomach and proximal duodenum. The fat mass will split into smaller particles, thereby increasing total fat surface area. In the second step, the pancreatic lipase is actively splitting triglycerides into mono- and diglycerides and free fatty acids. During the third step there is a big need of bile salts. Young animals have not enough bile salt production/recirculation. Fat has to be solubilized in the watery environment of the animal’s intestine, which is an inefficient process (especially in young animals and for saturated fat). During the fourth step, the solubilized fat will be absorbed.
